Profil Band Epica, Band Gothic Asal Belanda

Epica adalah Symphonic Metal, Progressive Metal, Gothic Metal band dari Belanda yang didirikan pada tahun 2002 oleh gitaris dan vokalis Mark Jansen setelah keluar dari After Forever dengan nama awal “Sahara Dust”. Nama “Epica” diilhami oleh album Kamelot, “Epica”.

Epica menggambarkan musik mereka adalah jembatan antara Power Metal dan Gothic Metal. Musik yang agresif, bombastis dengan beberapa lagu yang epic, agung dan megah. Band ini juga dikenal memiliki kecenderungan progresif, sementara suasana Gothic dan sentimentalitas juga hadir dalam musik mereka.Debut album mereka, The Phantom Agony, diproduksi oleh Sascha Paeth (dikenal karena telah menghasilkan band-band seperti Angra, Rhapsody of Fire dan Kamelot) dan dirilis pada akhir 2003.

Album kedua Epica, Consign to Oblivion (2005), dipengaruhi oleh budaya Peradaban Maya.Pada tahun 2005 dan 2006, mereka melakukan tur di seluruh Amerika Utara dengan Kamelot, April 2008 dengan Into Eternity dan Symphony X. Album kelima mereka, “Requiem for the Indifferent”, dirilis pada bulan Maret 2012.
